Mrs. Weiland K-12 Computers

Another excellent Edublogs.org weblog

January 4th-7th

Wow! It was very nice to have a Christmas break and spend time with family and friends! I’m sure the students are feeling the same way. The junior high computer students worked on blabberize.com to talk about their Christmas break and the events that took place. They were giggling and having a good time with it. The 6th graders worked on WackyWebTales and will be using a voki to animate their funny stories. The 6th graders had lots of fun conversations going on with their stories and I can’t wait to animate them.

Digital Talk for 9th Graders

We had a wonderful presentation given by Betsy A. on Digital Talk! The students were very receptive to the discussions. Betsy presented what a digital reputation was and the consequences of bad decisions students can make. She also gave eye-opening facts such as, 70% of employers search the internet to find information on applicants. She spoke of why a positive digital reputation is important and what to do to protect your digital reputation. Thanks Betsy for a wonderful presentation!

November 22nd-26th

Last week the elementary took a virtual tour to Plimoth Plantation in Plymouth, Massachusetts. We used Google Earth to take us there and to explore. We also used Scholastic’s virtual tour of the plantation to get more of an insight into the 1700′s. I hope everyone enjoys their Thanksgiving Day and please travel safely!

November 1st-5th

Hello,
It has been such a long time since I last blogged! I was surprised how the time flew by me without posting anything! I just wanted to share that the 8th grade class learned about computers in society. I asked the class to choose one of the topics we had discussed and dive further into the subject to gain more knowledge and then to share with the class. We discussed tools to present materials and how much material should be presented to have others learn from their knowledge. I left the project in the open and wanted to see where they would take it. I was very nervous about this as I generally set up a rubric, checklist, or some standard the kids need to achieve for good grades. This time, I did none of that and I was truley amazed by how much dedication, teamwork, and in-sight the kids had on their projects. I only had one group that I had to sit down and develop a better project. What did this whole experience teach me…they can learn, give them room, and watch them grow! Way to go 8th grade class! You made me proud!

October 18th-22nd

I am excited about the Elementary’s lessons next week. They will need to work on keyboarding first, but then they will be accessing my Halloween webpage and work with some pages that include math and reading with a Halloween twist on it. I hope the kids will enjoy it!

October 11th-15th

No school on Monday, October 11th to observe Columbus Day! We have so many extracurricular activities going on in school that it is hard to keep track of who is going to be gone and when, but the students do a wonderful job of handing in assignments on time! The 6th grade class started a journal segment in computers. They need to type an ending to the given story. They seemed to have fun writing and then reading stories, we are going to finish up their stories this week and work through some editing as well. I will be very interested to see what they created.
